who knows about womens watches?

I'm looking to buy a moderately expensive watch for my wife for Christmas. she wears a plastic one for work(though it was kind of pricey[why is plastic so expensive these days with a brand). Anyway, I'm looking to spend $300-$800 on an elegant, timeless piece. She's a woman that likes subtlety and classical appeal but I don't know the first thing on women's watches. I haven't worn a watch my entire life and have never bought one before for a female
