Stress is a normal part of life. We all know this. However, there are ways in which we can deal with stress. One of these ways is by eating certain foods and avoiding other foods, especially during the most stressful time of our lives.



Of course, eating a healthy diet is always an ideal way to handle stress. A healthy diet will help one to have a better immune system. This will insure that they have the energy to handle the stress in their lives because they won't be as sick as often. Plus, a healthy diet will help keep one to have a normal blood pressure. High blood pressure will add to one's anxiety levels.

· Complex carbs: Complex carbs will help the body raise its own levels of serotonin. This is the hormone in the body that is known as the feel good chemical. It is also a chemical that has a calming effect on the body. Complex carbs includes whole grain breakfast cereals, breads, pasta, and oatmeal.

· Oranges: Oranges contains vitamin C. Vitamin C has been known to help curb stress hormones. Vitamin C can also strengthen the immune system.

· Magnesium Enriched Foods: Foods that contain magnesium such as spinach, soybeans, and green leafy vegetables can help stress management by giving one more energy.

· Fatty Fish: Fatty fish and other foods that are high in Omega 3s can help surges in the stress hormone. This can include foods such as: salmon and tuna. These foods can also help combat heart disease, depression, and PMS symptoms.

· Black Tea: Studies have shown that if a person drinks 4 to 6 cups of black tea a day, they can handle stressful situations better. They can also decrease the amount of stress hormones in their body.

· Nuts: Nuts such as pistachios, walnuts, and almonds can help raise one's stress hormones. This can help them deal with stress. Nuts can also help give one extra energy throughout the day and help one lower cholesterol. However, nuts should only be eaten in small amounts because they can tend to be high in calories. The rule of thumb is to eat only a handful a day.

· Avocado: Avocados are high in potassium. Potassium is known to help raise the needed stress hormones in our body. In fact, half of an avocado has more potassium in it than a medium banana does. However, they are high in calories. For this reason, one should not eat too many of them.



What foods should one avoid for stress management?



One should avoid the foods that cause them to feel jittery. This can include foods and drinks that contain caffeine, if one has an issue with caffeine. This can also include eating too many foods that contain sugar, including complex carbs. Complex carbs such as candy and sodas will give an almost instant spike of serotonin, which can be good during a stressful event when one needs extra energy. But after the event, one may feel extra tired. This is why these complex carbs should only be used in the short term and only on rare occasions.



By eating the right foods, one may soon begin to feel better. This may help one be better equipped to deal with the stresses in their lives and even be able to make better decisions, which could led to less stress.
