Many here, when discussing same-sex marriage (SSM), use the idea that banning of interracial marriage (miscegenation) was only overturned recently, and so it should be with SSM.
The truth -- according to Wiki, anyway -- is that bans of miscegenation have not existed from the beginning of recorded history, but rather, were introduced in America in the 1700s¹.
So, interracial marriage is part of the tradition of marriage, over-turned by some, but not all American states in a weird perversion.
¹Also in Germany, circa 1935 generally and in some cases before that. Likewise South Africa.
