Revised Open Letter to the Board of the SOA

dimanche 1 février 2015

Starting a new thread to simplify things.

After considering feedback from people (here on the AO, and elsewhere), Hal Cherry and I have made a revised open letter that we intend to send to the Board of Directors of the SOA.

This letter is attached as a Word document, but I will also quote the text in its entirety in the following:

Quote:

An Open Letter to the Board of Directors of the Society of Actuaries

We, the undersigned members of the Society of Actuaries, are writing to the Board of Directors to express our deep concern about the recent conflicts that have arisen between the SOA and its fellow actuarial organizations, the American Academy of Actuaries and the Casualty Actuarial Society.

We are saddened to see these three organizations involved in recriminations and lawsuits. We fervently hope that this unfortunate situation will soon come to an end.

We call upon the SOA Board and, indeed, all U.S.-based actuarial organizations and their members, to return to a spirit of cooperation, collegiality and comity that befits these fine professional societies.

If you are an SOA member and are interested in signing onto our letter, please send an email to OpenLetterSOA@gmail.com using your email account as listed in the SOA Directory and stating your name as it appears in the Directory.

To ensure that the letter will be timely, we are setting a cut-off date of February 13 for signatures. If we get additional signatures after that date, we will send a supplementary list to the Board.

Thanks to everybody on the AO and those who emailed Hal & me directly to give us critiques, which informed our revision.
