POSITION SUMMARY
Support actuarial functions by serving as a subject matter expert. Demonstrate understanding of complex actuarial functions and industry related issues. Influence, recommend and implement actuarial policy and processes. May represent Actuarial on interdepartmental teams. Overall mission of Actuarial is to protect Aetna's financial integrity with sound reserving and risk management practices as well as product designs that meet customer needs and pricing that produces returns to shareholders commensurate with the risks undertaken. Actuarial is responsible for anticipating and recognizing matters that materially affect financial integrity and making sound, unbiased reports on these issues.

* Management of Resources- Successfully manage projects and initiatives to conclusion. Exhibit innovative use of resources.
* Scope of Decision Making- Exercise decision making within scope of authority.
* Risk Assessment- Demonstrate in-depth understanding of specific risks. Share results of analysis with management.
* Pricing, Trend and Benefit Design- Oversee development of pricing and trend for product and/or services. Understand and communicate financial impact to management.
Technical Proficiency:
* Use of Technology- Develop creative technical solutions to a variety of problems. Stay apprised of technical innovations as potential solutions for actuarial issues and concerns.
Communication:
* Verbal and Written Communication- Address complex inquiries. Prepare communications for internal and external constituents. Maintain accurate documentation and manage training and user support for tools and processes.
* Interaction with Constituents- Independently collaborate with internal and external constituents.
BACKGROUND/EXPERIENCE desired:
5+ years relevant experience.
College degree or equivalent experience
Must be an ASA or FSA and is typically a member of the American Academy of Actuaries (or other accredited actuarial organization) able to sign state rate filings and other required actuarial certifications.
EDUCATION
The highest level of education desired for candidates in this position is a Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience.

This position reports to the Northwest Market Actuary and manages actuarial functions for Washington, Alaska, Oregon and Idaho. Primary responsibilities include medical pricing, forecasting, filing preparation, earnings analysis, IBNR reserve work, trend analysis and rating factor analysis. The ideal candidate will have strong technical skills and strong skills in the areas of collaboration, communication, innovation, and risk management.
