Anyone ever come across a product that was a GAAP loser from the get go? I know how to reserve for profits followed by losses, but I'm trying to figure out what to do with losses followed by more losses (ie no profits). A company I work with is trying to achieve some capital relief by offering a replacement product to select policy holders to replace a different product that is causing a serious capital strain. The only benefit to the company is the capital relief as the new product doesn't generate any GAAP profits whatsoever.
