Stupidly, I've not checked out AO at all in the last five months, even though I've been unemployed those last five months. Je suis derp.
Anyhow, I was working in Phoenix. I'd been there for 2 years, and California for 4 years before that. I wanted to stay in the US (largely 'cause the salaries are so much better, and the cost of living is so much less, than back in Canada). I applied all over the freaking place. Got a lot of interviews. Yet out of over 200 applications (focused, not just scatter-gun), and dozens of interviews, I only got one job offer. And that last one was kiboshed at the last minute by some higher-up executive at the company who was the last signature needed for my offer, who said "What?! I can't believe you couldn't find an American for this position! I'm not signing off on this!" And just for a TN! With the HR person telling me apologetically "Well, we did find some Americans, they just weren't as well qualified as you are!" (Yeah, she might just have been saying that to make me feel better, but whatever.)
So we moved back to Canada, I'm looking for work here, and there's a good chance I'll end up at something like C$80k (rather than the US$90k I was making in Phoenix and would have made at that other job). I'm kinda frustrated (could you tell?).
tl;dr Is this a "thing" all over the US, that companies now are finding enough American candidates that they're less willing to hire Canadians or other foreigners on TN or H-1B? Or is it just me?

US employers less willing to hire Canadians on TN or H-1B?
