Men give up on looking good when they are 46

vendredi 27 septembre 2013

He hasn’t bought new underwear in years, refuses to spend more than £10 on a haircut and insists on keeping that stupid beard.

But perhaps – as passing time lends him an air of distinction and adds a strand or two of silver to his hair – he’ll mature like an ugly duckling into a stylish George Clooney type.

Dream on, ladies. By the age of 46, your man is likely to have completely given up on his physical appearance, a study reveals.

He won’t be bothered to keep up with trends – so at least the beard might bite the dust – and he’s even likely to have stopped trying to stay fit and healthy.

Women keep putting the effort in for an average of another 13 years, according to the survey.

But at 59, they throw in the towel and throw on some old jogging bottoms and a baggy cardigan.

‘Maintaining physical well-being becomes a lesser priority, influenced by wanting to relax in comfort,’ said Paul Keenan, of Benenden Health, which carried out the survey.

‘We regularly read about how we are all living longer – thanks to improvements in medical science.

‘But how many of us are taking steps to ensure our health and well-being remains in shape as we grow older?’

One in four of the 2,000 people surveyed by the private healthcare company said staying healthy and looking good cost too much money and was too big a commitment.

Two in three said it was normal to stop worrying about your looks once you had a long-term partner – and married people backed this up.

More than half said they focused on their appearance much less than before they got hitched.
