A spinoff from the savings thread (we may have done this before):
1. What unnecessary items do you spend extra on because its worth it to you? For example, buying a bottle of wine at a restaurant, even though you know wine is horribly marked up, or buying a fancy car even though a boring honda will also get you from pt A to pt B.
2. What items have you tried, but decided it is not worth it to you?
3. Anything you restrain from purchasing (that you could afford), even though you'd like to, because of cost?
For me:
1. The only bigish thing I can think of is that I overspent on a house to get the backyard and 3 car garage I really wanted. I didn't "need" either of those, but I definitely wanted them.
2. I purchased a sports car that was a good 50% over the price of a boring car which would do the same function. I enjoyed the sports car, but my next car was utilitarian.
3. The aforementioned bottle of wine at restaurants - I enjoy a good wine with steak, but the mark up at restaurants dulls my enjoyment too much.
