The Decline of Bridge.

jeudi 2 octobre 2014

As Klaymen is observing, and as I have seen in my neck of the woods, there has been a marked decline in bridge participation over the last few years. I am willing to point to three issues:

  • The Rise of Zero Tolerance;

  • The stagnation of permissible bidding methods; and

  • the economy.

I can't do anything about the economy, but I will do whatever I can by promulgating the meme, "Bridge is cheap therapy." I hope to add at least one limited-tolerance event to every tournament and, if that promotes participation, to evangel to the clubs.

to my way of thinking, "limited tolerance" means you may vent, but must be lyrical, amusing, or obscure. Others may have a different take on it. One might, permit an anything-goes structure with pre-set, limited fines going into a jackpot. Or anything other method that allows some venting.

I greatly prefer not to need to vent, but I find that my results are better when the opponents bash each other for hours. :dsmile: Your results may vary.

If I had resources, I'd see about getting some pins in time for New Orleans.
