What is the policy of companies when paying designation bonuses around the time that an employee leaves the company?
For this purpose let's pretend the employee earns an FSA and is entitled to a one-time bonus under the study program. Here are a few different scenarios if it changes your answer:
a) Submits paperwork and the bonus is processed and paid. Employee leaves within 1 month after bonus is paid.
b) Submits paperwork, but announces intent to leave before the paperwork is completely processed. Does the company typically still pay the bonus?
c) Earns designation and puts in two weeks notice. Submits paperwork for designation bonus.
I would imagine that in a) the company wouldn't try to recoup the bonus. In scenario c) I doubt they would pay it out. Scenario b) seems more ambiguous to me.
