Ideal Exam Count (3 or 4) for EL Positions?

samedi 3 janvier 2015

I'm wondering how many exams I should ideally have before applying for entry level positions in fall 2016.

In brief, I'm currently enrolled in an actuarial science masters program. I've done an an actuarial internship at a mid-sized life insurance company, and will have completed an actuarial internship at a large diversified insurance company this coming summer. I've also completed Exams P and FM, and was planning on completing the next two exams before fall 2016.

Should I just write one more exam, or write two more exams? Will having 4 exams be a big boost, or will it be incremental and possibly disadvantageous?

I've been given mixed advice from actuaries in the field as to whether you can have too many exams before your first full-time job. What data I can find, for example, from MassMutual's ADP brochures, suggests that the mean number of exams for their accepted full-time EL candidates is 3 exams.

Any suggestions or advice is welcome.

Thanks!
