By definition, a religious faith means believing in a particular deity without evidence to the scientific standard.
So Christians believe that Jesus Christ (and his father) are still alive in some meaningful sense, Muslims that Allah and Mohammed are, etc, but without demanding the level of evidence that you or I could supply (eg by presenting ourselves to a court of law and getting affadavits to testify that we are alive at the date and time of signing).
The system of demanding evidence of the truth of propositions works well in most (if not all?) of the transactions we undertake during our lives.
What possible good reason (other than the claims being exaggerated or even downright false) is there for deities expecting their followers to believe so much stuff without evidence?
Indeed, Christianity goes further, and encourages people to believe without evidence:
Theists: where's the safety net against charlatans if you start believing stuff without evidence? Where do you draw the line between stuff that you demand evidence for (eg buying a car or getting married) and the stuff that you don't demand evidence for? If you believe stuff about one god without evidence, what stops you from believing stuff about a different god? Indeed, what stops you from believing [the largest set of all religious claims made without evidence by all religions, astrology, the supernatural, which doesn't involve obvious massive contradictions?]??

Post by Sentinel: http://ift.tt/1yLd9yC John 20:24-29New International Version (NIV) Jesus Appears to Thomas 24 Now Thomas (also known as Didymus[a]), one of the Twelve, was not with the disciples when Jesus came. 25 So the other disciples told him, We have seen the Lord! But he said to them, Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 A week later his disciples were in the house again, and Thomas was with them. Though the doors were locked, Jesus came and stood among them and said, Peace be with you! 27 Then he said to Thomas, Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe. 28 Thomas said to him, My Lord and my God! 29 Then Jesus told him, Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed. |

Why are theists happy that their god expects them to believe without evidence?
