I noticed the SOA has a new explorer tool. You have to sign in as a member and then you get a google map with the locations of actuaries, presumably from the SOA directory. My first reaction is that it's very nice.
If you zoom out as far as possible, you can get a sense for the size of the actuarial job market in various cities. It's also nice in general to get this information on a map. You would think the results would always be the same when you zoom out as far as possible (the whole USA), but it isn't. Each time I zoom out all the way I get similar but different numbers. The East coast seems to change the most, probably due to the high density.
I did notice that there are people who are located at what appears to be a home address, which seems odd. Maybe it's just based on how they have their profile set up or maybe they work out of their home or are retired. I don't think I would want my home address showing up.
