Quote:

CANADIAN BASKETBALL PLAYER GETS OK TO USE HIS REAL NAME … GUY F**K

That’s Guy Carbagiale ****, to be precise. That’s his real name, and he plays for the Medicine Hat College Rattlers, in Alberta, Canada. And for the past two years school officials have not let the team use his full name on their roster, in sports publications or even in the local press. Thus he was known around town as Guy Carbagiale.

But as the Rattlers entered the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs earlier this month, Mr. **** said he had had enough, and demanded to use his real name. And so the school relented.

And we’re all winners here, because now we get possibly the two greatest quotes you will read on a sports site this decade:

“I PLAYED IN A VERY SMALL CITY,” SAID ****. “TO AVOID COMMUNITY CONFLICT, THEY ASKED ME TO GO BY MY FIRST AND MIDDLE NAME.”

And …

WHEN ASKED IF HE’S EVER THOUGHT ABOUT CHANGING HIS LAST NAME, THE ANSWER IS NO.

“NO, NO, NO. I WANT TO HAVE KIDS, I WANT TO SPREAD THE **** LAST NAME,” HE SAID.

**** was born in Brazil, where his name raises no eyebrows at all. He says it’s German, and means “Fox.” And it’s actually pronounced “Foo-key”, so there’s no public address or radio implications here.

But seeing it in print was somewhat alarming in small-town Medicine Hat.

And so we have the early leader in the 2016 Name of the Year contest.
