Anybody dealt with it much? I had been training for a half marathon (about 3 months and 200 miles in). In general my left leg/hip never had an issue (right knee/foot had minor issues that ice/stretching kept in check) about a month ago around mile 9 on a 11 mile run my hip/knee on the left side started getting sore so I stopped about a 1/2 mile early. So for the next 10 days I did shorter runs with nothing over 4 miles but stupidly they weren't easy ones (some hills, beer mile, fast intervals, 2 mile PR.. etc). I appear to have pushed it until something finally snapped. Final day I went out for a 6 mile run but during the warmup there was discomfort in my hip, stupidly I didn't stop then but went on for the run, a few miles out I finally admitted it was a bad idea and ran back but I think the damage was already done (later that day I had severe hip pain in the skin/tendons around it. Hurt really bad if I poked it while walking.
Now my hip starts getting sore during a run of 2 to 3 miles (easy pace) and takes a day to recover. If I keep running the IT band gets really tight irritating my inner knee but it starts at the hip for sure (haven't ran over 4 miles at once since the 11m run). I took off 8 days once (did do a lot of walking on vacation) and within 4 miles my hip was sore again. Now I've taken off a week and started doing physical therapy/yoga to try to strengthen and loosen up the hip.
Those with ITBS, does this sounds consistent with your experience? Think its something else? Hip Bursitis seemed possible as well.
