Would a major in Finance help secure an actuarial position

dimanche 24 août 2014

Hello,

I have a bachelors of science in marketing and management with a minor in finance. Would it be worth it to go back to my university to take two more classes in order to major in finance? It would cost me about $1,600 and a semester of work.

I haven't put much time in sending out applications and I am currently brushing up on my software/programming skills. I know that these skills are more important than getting the finance degree at this time when it comes to landing an entry level actuarial position. Do you think a finance degree would open doors for me? Would this count as a "quantitative" degree and thus increase the amount of employers that would consider hiring me?

Thanks!
