So I'm pretty ecstatic that I passed P yesterday, and I'll be studying for FM this summer. It's a huge relief and an accomplishment I'm proud of.
However, it's already April now and I feel that looking for internships, while I'll still try, is a lost cause. Despite the fact that it's already very late to look, my GPA also isn't the strongest - it's been consistently good since after my freshman year, but during my first semester of freshman year I did so poorly I was literally within inches of getting kicked out of school. It's been one hell of a turnaround from there and I have never looked back, but it's hard to bring up an extremely low even with years of good solid work after that.
Besides my GPA I feel I have a strong resume, and I'm hoping someone in hiring can chime in on this. I passed P so I have the math skills (or at least, the baseline ones), I also have extremely strong programming skills, have taken classes on R and SAS, and have published 3 mobile apps so programming is a breeze for me and I can learn new languages quickly.
I want to say my interviewing skills are good, but I'm not sure I'd know if they were bad.. :hsmack:
I've had frustration before with job fairs, because I felt very qualified for many positions I never even received phone calls or emails about. I guess HR is a black hole and resumes should never go there anyways.
So I guess I'm just looking for guidance as to what I should be doing next. I'm already a junior at my university, so if I don't find an internship for this summer, I'll be one of those guys graduating without an internship, and that's a huge blow to my chances for a job if I understand correctly. Is it too late to look for an actuarial internship? If I can find an internship in an unrelated field, should I take that position, or instead focus on passing FM? Or both?
