So this weekend my family got together for a mass remembering my grandmother who passed away about a year ago. My aunt, with whom living had been this grandmother of mine, brought along a pile of old pictures, letters, and other documents that she thought some of us might be interested in seeing. Some of these I had seen before, but most were totally new to me - including one of my grandfather, in high school, dressed to play the lead in his school's 1940 production of "The Mikado", and another of my great granddad playing guitar in a band at a 1930s radio station. I decided that it was important that these things be preserved and shared with the rest of the family, and so I kinda sorta volunteered to take on the project.
So... now what?
I figure this is a problem that has been solved before. I hereby solicit from you good people any ideas as to how to set about doing this. I'm going to need a scanner. I'm going to need some sort of software to organize this thing. I'm going to need to work with my relatives to identify and describe pictures of people I've never even met. I don't know if my older relatives are up for a family Wiki, but that's the first idea that springs to mind.
The floor's open. Whaddaya think?
