A few nights ago, a friend and I were out drinking pretty heavily. We went back to our hotel around 2am and went to sleep. The next morning, both of us started throwing up around 8am. We basically went back and forth to the bathroom so that one of us one in it at all times. The third of fourth time she went in there, she had a seizure while throwing up.
Here's her description of what happened:
She knew she had to throw up but just couldn't do it so she stuck her finger down her throat to make it happen. She started throwing up normally but then it got really violent. When she was done, she went to sit back and realized she wasn't done yet and put her head back over the toilet. She started the process and got really sweaty and dizzy, then woke up on the floor with a small/medium sized amount of drool/puke on the floor.
She remembers having a dream with images flashing through her mind too fast for her to comprehend and says she had an "awareness" that she was twitching. She said it felt like when sometimes you twitch and wake up quickly but it wasn't just one twitch.
As soon as she woke up, she was fully aware of what happened, not confused, and felt perfectly fine... for about 2 minutes, then the hangover symptoms came back and she went back to bed.
I heard nothing. And in the hotel room we were in, you could hear everything going on in the bathroom. She didn't tell me about it until later on in the day when we were both feeling fine.
Before anyone says it: Yes, I know a board of actuaries isn't the best place to get medical advice. For a number of very poor excuses, my friend is not going to see her doctor.
Since this episode, I've been doing the normal thing by trying to diagnose her through google searches. I've found 3 types of seizures that can occur from alcohol: 1 happens at the height of binge drinking, not during withdrawl and the other 2 are related to chronic alcoholics going through withdrawl. In all the descriptions I've come across, chronic alcoholic means daily drinker. She is not a daily drinker but she does drink quite a bit.
Any amateur doctor's out there want to give me suggestions on what might've caused the seizure?
