I haven't seen my mother's side of my family in about 10 years. I saw one aunt and uncle, and three cousins, once a year at Christmas growing up. Then, I moved away, was back for short timespans, and just never made the effort to see them. The aunt and uncle send the odd card saying we should see eachother at some point. They included an email address.
I'll be back for longer than normal this year, and actually would kind of like to see them. But, now that it's been 10 years, it's like, well, that's going to be weird right? Do I really want things to be weird? Well, no, so it's easier to just continue not seeing them and never see them again.
That of course is the wrong answer, but it's the easy answer. It will only get more awkward, better late than never, etc. But, I don't think I want to bite the bullet.
I get myself in various situations like this, where things get really weird because they were a little wierd and I didn't want to deal with them.
