I showed up to my statistics class in hopes of having time to talk to them.
One showed up early. She said she is majoring in pure math, and wants to be a professor. She is also training to be an EMT so she can get paid full time and study math while on call. She is currently a waiter. I told her I want to be an actuary. She said that sounds like a very interesting career, but she prefers professor.
The other one showed up right as class started. I knew she might leave soon after class, so I gave her a note during class asking if she was a math major. She waited until after class to respond, and spoke to me a few minutes before leaving. She said she thought about the actuary career, but does not want to think about work after college, and right now just wants to focus on getting her degree. She said she will search for a job after she graduates.
At the book store, one of the workers there, a freshmen, said he wants to be an actuary. He told me that "An actuary is a death clock: they calculate when people will die." I gave him a better definition, and told him about AO.
So there is a snap shot of math students who thought about the career. Many other students in my math classes are engineering students.

I interviewed a few female math classmates...
