My friend (let's call him Tony) has a situation and I'm asked to give an opinion-
Tony interviewed with an employer for a step-up position and the employer thinks that he has the potential. But as many hiring manager would do, the employer still continues engaging recruiters to hunt for more candidates. Tony received a few calls from other recruiters on that opening and feels anxious about it. Tony wants the job a lot and would like to take a more pro-active approach: to make a lunch appointment with the hiring manager so that he can create an advantage to get "closer" to the hiring manager. The rationale is that other than making greater impression to hiring manager, it actually also gives chance to the hiring manager to further evaluate him.
Does this make sense? If it does, what is the key "things" to be advised to Tony?
To me it is a bit risky and depends on how the hiring manager views it.
