Been looking for one of the threads that talked about employees getting fired for confronting criminals in the workplace and then getting fired, but had no luck.
Utah Supreme Court is weighing a case of Wal-Mart employees who confronted a suspected shoplifter who pulled a weapon. The employees disarmed the person and detained him for police and then were fired by Wal-Mart for violating their policy to walk away from someone who brandishes a weapon.
They claim that their right to defend themselves preempts the at-will employment ability of Wal-Mart to fire them. Not sure how that will fly. I know even with at-will, there are still reasons you cannot fire someone. It will be interesting to see how this is ruled.
Though, I am not totally sure why someone would sue to get their job back at Wal-Mart.
