Advice Needed on EL and Internship Positions

lundi 6 octobre 2014

Hello all,

This is my first post on the AO. First of all, I would like to apologize in advance if what I am asking in this post is covered elsewhere.

A little about myself:

I am a senior in college (graduating June 2015) with 2 actuary exams, a semi-competitive GPA (~3.7/4.0), and extracurricular activities (including holding an officer role in my school's actuarial science club), but NO actuarial internship. I do have other internship experience (ie. last summer, I completed a 12 week internship for a government agency where my role was data entry and analysis, mostly with Excel), but nothing actuarial or insurance related.

This is my situation:

I have submitted my application for entry-level at my top choice company, but I noticed afterwards that they accept graduating seniors in the posting for their summer internship. Is it appropriate to apply to both their entry level position AND their internship? If so, should I indicate in the cover letter that I prefer to work full time, but am willing to intern if they deem my qualifications better suited for the internship?

How do you think I should approach this situation?

I want to thank you in advance for helping me out! Also, any other career advice would be greatly appreciated because I honestly think my head will explode from trying to find a job!

Thanks again!
