Stemming from a conversation with a friend (who has a PhD, and I don't).
Is it an artificial barrier-to-entry kind of thing? (Like "we were required to do it so we're gonna make future teaching candidates be required to have it" kind of thing?) Or do PhDs have something that non-PhDs don't have? Because there are PhDs who are awful teachers, just as there are non-PhDs who are fantastic teachers.
