Low GPA with no work experience or internship - suggestions?

mercredi 21 janvier 2015

Throughout my first 3 years of university, I slacked off alot and also took courses that weren't related to my major. I didn't try as hard and so I would have courses that end in the C to D range and that really dropped my GPA. I also was in Chem major before because I was good at high school Chem but Chem at universities were really different. So I got Ds in some of the Chem courses that I took. It got to the point where I had almost 70-80 credits where I was required to withdraw.

My school has a program that lets me stay at my school to continue my studies if I was able to pass a series of courses which proves that I am willing to try hard for the remainder of my school career, I can get back out of academic probation and back to good academic standing. So I completed those courses and I did end up getting back to good academic standing. My math was always better than my chem, but I always thought that with math, I couldn't do anything other than be a teacher, and so I heard about the AS recently and I went to talk to the advisors I have at school, and they suggested that I do self studying if I wanted to become an actuary.

So I ended up switching to Stats because for my current position, it was easiest to get into. Since then, I've been slowly pushing my GPA up, but because I have so many credits already under my belt, my GPA doesn't go up a significant amount every semester. So at the moment, my CGPA is at 2.2 and my Major GPA is sitting at 2.6. I have no work experience either because my GPAs so low. Since I got out of the program I was in, I was constantly in search of any ways I can get some work experience related to stats or actuarial science, but I've had no luck with such a low GPA. I'm planning to take my first exam in March as well.

Any suggestions that will allow me to stay in AS if there's any at all?
