Prejudices (heightism) in the workplace

dimanche 21 septembre 2014

Hello all, I'm an Asian male (Indonesian ancestry) who stands 5'3" but is a native English (american) speaker. As others would put it, I am "vertically challenged" not as a result of a medical condition but, rather, genetics. I have a bachelor's and master's in Physics. Assuming I make good progress towards the exams, how much of a hindrance would my race-related height be (I'm talking about people's preconceived notions about short, non-white people being inferior) when it comes to climbing up the corporate ladder as an actuary? FYI, I have read a lot of studies about short people generally making less money than their taller counterparts, the overwhelming number of CEO's who are 6 feet or taller, how short people are seen as inferior, etc, I'm well aware of all of that. My question is very SPECIFIC to the ACTUARIAL profession, and not about the business world in general.

Thanks for your thoughts!
