A friend is a member of an employer based plan where the network is missing a provider he'd particularly like to see for a fairly expensive procedure.
There are individual plans in the area that include that provider.
Can someone buy an individual policy and have dual coverage or do plans (or regulations) disallow enrollment in individual if you're already covered by a group plan?
The idea would be to pick up the individual plan during open enrollment, have the procedure in January, and then drop coverage. This would be a shitty deal for the individual insurance company if regulations / enrollment rules allow it to happen, but it would be good for my friend.
