Current Opportunity: Actuary

Internal/External - TDI employees and the General Public



This position performs advanced and/or senior-level actuarial work providing actuarial advice and consultation.



Additionally, this position:


  • conducts actuarial review and analysis of life, accident, health, and HMO rate filings and reports filings, and makes recommendations for the approval or disapproval of regulated rates;

  • implements insurance rules and regulations;

  • oversees research, data review, and analysis;

  • develops actuarial and statistical plans and exhibits for distribution to the agency, staff, industry, and public;

  • may participate in NAIC meetings and conference calls;

  • represents the agency on actuarial matters in meetings with the public, public officials, and industry representatives;

  • prepares executive level and technical reports to monitor the insurance market;

  • assesses the impact of existing and proposed legislation or policies on agency programs with respect to actuarial matters; and

  • performs related work, as assigned.




Qualifications

This position requires graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a degree in statistics, mathematics, actuarial science, or a field related to the assignment. Education and experience relevant to the position requirements may be substituted for one another on a year-for-year basis.



Additionally, this position:


  • requires five years experience in the actuarial field, and membership in the American Academy of Actuaries or membership in the Society of Actuaries;

  • prefers experience in life, accident, and/or health insurance, specifically in pricing health products.




This position requires demonstrated knowledge of:


  • actuarial formulas, methods, and procedures;

  • loss reserving and pricing methods, assumptions, and calculations; and

  • applicable laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures.






This position requires demonstrated skill in:


  • applying actuarial principles and techniques;

  • communicating and working effectively with all levels of employees, governmental officials, and the public;

  • using Microsoft Office software applications, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, and Outlook;

  • using standard office equipment; and

  • using personal computers sufficient to use actuarial computer applications.




This position requires the demonstrated ability to:


  • establish and maintain effective working relationships with managers, team members, co-workers, and the public;

  • develop, prepare, and present technical reports, correspondence, and presentations for consumers, public officials, industry representatives, and other groups;

  • research and solve problems; and

  • interpret rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
