Broadchurch vs Gracepoint

For people who have watched both, thoughts? I am mostly kind of annoyed, all the promotions for Gracepoint promised that the series would be its own thing after the first episode, but even as of the second-to-last episode it's practically felt like a shot-for-shot remake. They threw one curveball halfway through, but then got right back on track an episode later. There are a few other minor differences, and admittedly they would seem to rule out Gracepoint having the exact same ending as Broadchurch (since in this version

the detective's husband isn't bald, and thus wouldn't be mistaken for the crazy woman's son from a distance

) but still, it feels like they didn't really have the guts to forge their own path.
