A few months back, due to moving, I switched from working out at home, in my shed with my own personal weights to working out at the community fitness center, with fancy olympic bars and a quarter acre of nautilus machines. All well and good.
About a month ago, as I was finishing my first set of bench press, one of the other middle-aged bros there (I call him Dexter, no idea what his actual name is, but it's short for Poindexter) said "hey, I noticed your left arm is lagging your right and also your grip is pretty narrow." So we talk about bench pressing and stuff, and I figure, nice feedback and sure, I'll try a more "neutral" grip.
Next day, I find that I have an inflamed tendon in my left arm. Apparently the deeper experience I could get from the more "neutral" grip was a bit too much for my elbow. Well, it's the holidays and I usually slack off for a bit around then anyway, so good time to let it recover.
I'm still waiting for it to recover. My wife added a daily capsule of tumeric to my vitamins, since apparently that's good for inflammation. Can't hurt, and probably healthier than the mega-doses of ibuprofin I'd otherwise be trying.
Meanwhile, I'm avoiding exercises that engage the tricep, which includes (it turns out) 65% of my regular routine. I guess it's a sign to focus on my deadlift or something.
I'd end with a moral of the story, except that would contradict the moral of the story.
Hi guys!
