Here's the deal: My first teaching gig was first-year calc to a class of 200 students. Sometimes people were disruptive and it was hard for me to assert class control. Eventually I got more assertive and it was actually a really good learning experience for me and helped me to grow as a person.
The problem is this: If a potential employer googles my name they will come across the ratemyprofessor page with students complaining that I had no class control. I don't think this is reflective of my teaching in general, and I actually got really good teaching evaluations at the end of the year with many good comments from the students. But this reflects badly as a first impression to a potential employer, does it not?
Is this big problem?
