Shaking the Hornet's Nest

jeudi 8 janvier 2015

Hannity had a number of guests on his show last night, some of which were apologists trying to explain and in some cases justify last night's attack on Paris. One guest made an interesting metaphor that has stuck with me, especially in the context of what other people (Such as actuary21c) have been proposing.

Charlie Hebdo was a salacious magazine, highly offensive to everyone. And some have suggested that the proper response to a violent reaction to them is to post even more offensive imagery, to show that the attack didn't work. But what if Hebdo was just "shaking the hornets nest"? Can we really expect a different result from radical islamists? Is continuing to be salacious (which certainly isn't necessary) really the best solution, or will it just lead to escalation?

I actually am not entirely sure.
