Should I triple major?

jeudi 8 janvier 2015

Hello! So as a current sophomore in college, it's been kind of tough getting an internship for this summer. Although I have a 3.95 GPA, passed FM (and taking P in one week!), and have other relevant experience, I haven't gotten past the first round for any of my 7 interviews. So I've been thinking that maybe adding another major could be beneficial for me since the job market seems to be tougher than I anticipated. Currently, I'm expecting to graduate in 3.5 years with a double Act Sci/Risk Management and Insurance major, but if I decide to add Finance it would only be 4 extra classes, so I would have to stay the full 4 years. I'm just not sure if the benefits outweigh the costs or not. Here are my thoughts:

Benefits:

1. Increased personal marketability to employers

2. More career flexibility if I decide to do something else (which I don't really see happening)

3. Deeper business background

4. Ability to live the full "college life" (although I could probably still do this while working close by and just not paying tuition)

Costs:

1. $$$$$$$ (in both tuition and salary foregone)

What do you guys think? I do like Finance for the most part, but I just don't know what the impact of adding the major would be. How much would the extra major increase my chances of getting a job after graduation? I realize that exams are the biggest difference maker, but I feel like the extra major could help too. All opinions/thoughts are welcome!
