I've driven manual transmission cars for most of my adult life. I have never had to have a clutch replaced. My mechanic told me that the clutch had a fair amount of play in it and I should think about having it replaced. He said I probably hadn't noticed because it gradually deteriorates. Current car has 140K miles, and he seemed a bit surprised it was still the original clutch.
How long should one last? He said 50-100k depending on driving habits and amount of highway miles. Seems odd in that I drive in a lot of stop and go traffic and I've never replaced a clutch and hit 100K multiple times.
