Why are so many people on this forum (a forum full of actuaries) opposed to it? Isn't income redistribution just "diversified risk"? Insurance is income redistribution, and I'm sure we can all agree that insurance is a good thing. Why is it so bad when the government gets involved in risk management? Okay, maybe government doesn't manage it well in some cases, but the very idea of government getting involved in risk management, why is this a bad thing?
