Best man speech

I need to do the best man speech for my bro in a wedding soon. Here is the current version. Lemme know what you think. Too long? Just right? Good toast? (names have been changed to protect the innocent):

Quote:

Hello. For those of you that don't know me, I'm Tupac Shakur - Grooms's oldest

brother - and lucky enough to be chosen as best man.

So how did Groom wind up here today with all of us?

I'll start with a story from when Groom was around 7 years old. We lived in rural State (not redundant - it was rural even by State standards). The city was Small Town, and Groom hadn't met any friends yet. So instead of just accepting it, he decided to do something about it. Groom went house to house, knocking on the front door asking:

"Hello, my name is Groom Full Name - do you have any kids here my age I can play with?"

First houses answered - nope. He goes to the next house:

"Hello, my name is Groom Full Name - do you have any kids here my age I can play with?"

They respond - hold on a minute - hey BO!

And that is how Groom met Bo Fetterhoff - who would go on to be his best friend until we moved from Rural State.

So Groom doesn't just sit around and accept things the way they are. If he isn't happy, he will go after what he wants. When we moved from Rural State to California, Groom was the one who went the furthest to college. Instead of a local school, Groom wanted more of an academic challenge. So he went XXXXmiles away to Chico State. Got his degree, and met some great friends that are here today. After Chico - he went on to peace corps in Turkmenistan, and to graduate school in Arizona.

Finally he made the most important move of all. He moved to San Francisco, where he was one of the very few lucky ones - and he met his soul mate. Sergio. Then a few years later he met his then-future wife - Bride.

Obviously I haven't known Bride nearly as long as I've known Groom, but she is definitely already family.

This was made apparent to me this past summer when Bride joined us for a trip to New York. Bride was immersed in Shakurs. We had a party with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces. Some that we hadn't seen for 20+ years. Well, it wasn't more than 30 minutes before me and my brothers were asking Bride - what's that guy's name? Bride: "oh - that's your cousin Danny, and his 2 kids are Billy and Bobby". Like I said, it was like she was already family.

Last month, me and my father came up to SF to meet Bride's family. We were kind of nervous meeting so many new people. But once we showed up at her parents house, there was no more being nervous. Their family is as close as ours, and they all made us feel right at home. And the bottle of cognac that Bride's dad shared with us on the freshly painted porch didn't hurt either.

So finally - here we are - with family and friends from all of Groom and Bride's journeys. So let's hold up our drinks and have a toast: To Groom& Bride - and to family.
