Finding the unknown in a cdf.

lundi 17 novembre 2014

Let X be a random variable with the following cumulative distribution function: F(x) ={0, x < 0; x^2, 0 <= x < 1/2; alpha, x = 1/2; 1-2^(-2x)

I am just not sure how to find alpha. I know my problems with this stuff tend to be me making it harder than it is, but I am stuck on this one. :)

This is problem 25.10 for Finan's 2014 version of his book.
