Our friend's daughter has asthma and some other auto-immune disorders, I'm not 100% sure on the details. She's not even autistic, just has common health issues. The mother is now 100% sure that the asthma and auto-immune are due to vaccines. Specifically, she has implicated to me that the DTaP vaccine (diptheria, tetanus, and pertussis) is responsible.
Of course, the anti-vaxxer brigade is fueling her paranoia. She also has a younger daughter who was not vaccinated per the standard schedule. She (mother) expressed a desire to delay the vaccination schedule, but the younger daughter does not have asthma. Mom is now waffling on giving her any vaccines!
I am trying to convince her otherwise. I tried explaining that the lack of asthma is more likely due to her moving to a less polluted area prior to 2nd daughter's conception. Of course that didn't work.
Next, I tried to look up double-blind control studies on the DTaP vaccine but couldn't find any. I seriously doubt they would just pump our children full of combo vaccines without testing them. Please, could someone with better google skills than I link to the safety/efficacy studies performed prior to the DTaP (or DTP) vaccines being recommended for all children?
I really want to shut her up as this issue becomes conversation in every social setting.
