I do not, but I'm curious how it works.
I make a decent actuary wage in the northeast, but with a wife home with kids, and a mortgage, there's little to no room in the budget for luxury.
On the other hand, I have a relative who makes similar money (I'm assuming), lives in a very expensive area of the country, and lives an opulent lifestyle. I realize "opulence" is a subjective term, so I'm defining it as Porches, BMWs, 4000+ sqft home in a very pricey area (with all the furnishings), and seemingly off-the-cuff travel. The main difference between the two of us, is that he married a girl whose family appears to have a lot of money (also not sure how they earned it, but that's a different question).
So, my question is, how does it work when you have "rich" parents? Do they just write you checks on the regular? Do they give you a lump sum of money when you get married (how much? maybe half a million?)? Do they pay your bills?
I'm honestly not jealous of the lifestyle, becuase it seems a bit much to me. I'm just really, really curious. I can't imagine someone just giving me money. Don't get me wrong...I'd take it. I just can't conceive of a situation where it would happen.
Can anyone explain how money flows from parents to grown children? (please no stories of friends of friends of friends. I'd Prefer first-person accounts, but second hand from a reputable poster would suffice)
