Negotiating a medical bill

vendredi 20 février 2015

A little while ago I had to go to the ER and get a 3 stitches. I walked into the ER waited for about 10 minutes and saw a doctor to look at my wound. Another doctor came in and put in the stitches and i filed paperwork and that was that.

I was billed about 1600 AFTER taking into account insurance. Just looking at the itemized bill from the first the ER room I had was 1700 and the procedure was 900. I had to go into 2 more times as check-ups and getting rid of the stitches. I was charged again for the ER for both times.

The procedure itself consisted of 3 stitches, 1 bottle of saline and 2 numbing agents.

What is the best way to negotiate this down? I can't justify paying 1600 for the stitches when it should cost less than 100 in total.
