Hello everyone I am a Sophomore at Stevens Institute of Technology and i was wondering if its too late or if i should become an actuary.
Let me tell you a little bit about my background (this isnt my attempt to show off but just letting you know so you know if its a good idea to make this my career). I started taking math seriously in junior year of high school and i have really enjoyed it and been very good at it. I got a perfect score on my SAT in math and ive gotten perfect scores on all my state tests in math junior year of high school and up (including PSAT, HESPA). And i always got A's in math in high school and so far ive taken calc 1,2,3,4 in college and ive gotten A's in all of them. So im pretty good at math; but ive read that everyone thats an actuary is as good if not better than me at math already. Actuaries, i read, are amazing at math. I was majoring in Chemical engineering at first but i didnt enjoy engineering so i switched to a mathematical science major to become an actuary cause we dont have an actuary program. Im taking a probability and statistics course this semester and i want to take my first exam this summer. Im having a little trouble with prob and stats, its not the same thinking style as calculus, but im hoping its only because i havent put time into studying, ive just been hoping i can get by by using my calculus knowledge. I enjoy probability, its an exciting way of thinking, i just havent prioritized it since i have taken on a lot of credits this semester. So Given my background and love of math, should i be an actuary, and what path should i take. I enjoy numbers a lot; so whichever field has more math in it and let science let me know haha. Also, can i pass the first exam off of a prob and stats class in college or do i need to dedicate my own time in studying! One more thing, how many exams do i need to take before i can get a job (i know there isnt a set amount, but how much to be certain) Im thinking i want to take one exam this summer and one exam next summer.
